AVI files not played with the 6500 over Samba

I am having problem playing AVI files over Samba from an iMac.

Hang on now... I know AVI files are just a container and can contain different codecs but exactly the same files can be played using a USB HD connected to the 6500.

If I try and play the files over Samba, the Tvix-box says "file is not supported, file is damaged".

iMac and the 6500 is connect thru Ethernet thru a Netgear-router.

Does anyone have any ideas what could be wrong?
